Description

Stem disks from twenty-four trees (12 trees/treatment). Treatments were Control (C) and Irrigation with liquid fertiliser (IL). Four to six stem discs were taken on each sample tree depending on tree height. Tree number 1-3, 10-12, 16-18, 22-24 = Control (C-plots). Tree number 4-9, 13-15 , 19-21= Irrigation with liquid fertiliser (IL-plots). Stem disks were processed by Vindeln Experimental Forest.

Background information

In September 1998 a destructive sampling was carried out in the nutrient optimisation experiment 1477 Flakaliden in collaboration with Dr. Seija Anttonen, Metla Finland. Tree roots were sampled in the following spring. Samples for chemical analysis were transported to Suonenjoki Research station. Southern half of disks were analysed for total lignin content, soluble sugars and starch, terpenes, resin acids, cellulose and C/N ratio. Needles and branch wood were analysed for soluble sugars and starch and C/N ratio.
