Description

Dried fractions from a biomass sampling in in the nutrient optimisation experiment 1477 Flakaliden in November 1996. Stored fractions are needles, wood and roots. Sixteen trees (4 trees/treatment) were sampled. Tree number 3, 7, 8, 14 - Control (C-plots). Tree number 1,11, 12 13 - Irrigation with water (I-plots). Tree number 5, 6, 10, 16 - Irrigation with liquid fertiliser (IL-plots). Tree number 2, 4, 9, 15 - Solid fertiliser (F-plots).

Background information

In November 1996 a destructive sampling was carried out to obtain a profile through the tree, regarding specific leaf area (SLA) for C+1 needles on branch order 1. Four treatments were included in the sampling: Control (C), Irrigation with water (I), Irrigation with liquid fertiliser (IL) and Solid fertiliser (F). Sample trees were divided in four height classes: 1-4, in ascending order. Tree crowns were divided into five stratums. Three sample branches were taken from each stratum. Depending on tree height five to six stem discs were taken on each tree at stem base, breast height, 30%, 55%, 70% and 85% of the stem. Tree stumps and roots were sampled in the following spring.

Events Miscellaneous N/A: Breast height disc on tree 10 (IL) and on tree 14 (C) were halved. One half was sent to biofuel in Övik. The other halfs are stored at Svartberget field station to be shown on excursion.
